mumbai local train accident
A tragic incident occurred on June 9, 2025
near Mumbra in Thane district, Maharashtra, when four passengers lost their lives and several others were injured after falling from overcrowded local trains during the morning rush hour. The accident took place between Diva and Kopar stations on the Central Railway line, involving two trains—one heading towards Kasara and the other towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). As the trains crossed each other near a sharp curve, commuters standing on the footboards fell due to excessive crowding and their backpacks brushing against each other. The victims, aged between 30 and 35, were rushed to nearby hospitals, but four were declared dead on arrival.
In response to the incident, the Railway Ministry has mandated that all local trains in Mumbai, both existing and new, will be equipped with automatic door-closing mechanisms to enhance commuter safety and prevent such fatalities in the future.
The incident has sparked widespread concern over overcrowding and safety in Mumbai's suburban rail network, with calls for systemic reforms to prevent further tragedies
