On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight AI-171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, tragically crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, India. The flight was en route to London Gatwick Airport and was carrying 242 individuals, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members. The passengers comprised 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals
The aircraft crashed into a residential area near B.J. Medical College in the Meghani Nagar locality, causing a massive fireball. At least 204 bodies have been recovered from the wreckage, and 41 individuals on the ground sustained injuries. Remarkably, one British passenger survived the crash and is currently receiving medical treatment
